Under the initiative named ‘Meri Lado Kare Padhai’, the district administration of Gurgaon has decided to provide free education to the girl students who are from Class IX to XII. The initiative will be funded by quite a few NGO and companies based in Gurgaon, as part of their CSR activities. The girl students get free education till class VIII under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, mentioned in the Indian constitution.
The initiative has been taken to lower the dropout rates of girls from various schools in the region after they complete their free education upto class VIII. The district administration is hopeful that this initiative would bar the girls from opting out from schools and they would continue their studies in their respective schools. The corporate figures, associated with the initiative have also planned to rope in the panchayats under the initiative. The District Education Officer Manoj Kaushik said, “This initiative is an extension of the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ prgramme. We have already started work on it.”
The money for the initiative would be raised through various schemes and stakeholders in the state. The approx. budgetary allocation for the initiative has been penned to Rs. 1.35 crores by the education department. The money would not only flow from the various functional NGOs and corporate houses in the region, but many volunteers and teachers from various schools have come up to make it a successful one. The girl students would get immensely benefited with this initiative and can complete their goals of higher studies in their desired field of study.
